Avatar' leads box office for fourth weekend
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Avatar" ruled the North American box office for a fourth weekend on Sunday, days after it soared up the worldwide rankings to become the second-biggest movie of all time. James Cameron's 3-D sci-fi epic earned $48.5 million across the United States and Canada during the three-day period beginning Friday, distributor 20th Century Fox said.
"Friends" star Matt LeBlanc back to TV - as himself
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Former "Friends" star Matt LeBlanc is returning to U.S. television for the first time since 2006, playing himself in a quirky comic spoof of the TV business. LeBlanc, 42, who played womanizer Joey Tribbiani in the hit comedy "Friends," is forced to audition for the role of himself in the series "Episodes," Showtime executives said on Saturday.
CBS says business as usual with Charlie Sheen
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - CBS TV executives steered clear of the domestic violence allegations surrounding TV star Charlie Sheen, saying on Saturday it was business as usual on the set of his hit show "Two and a Half Men." "Charlie is a consummate pro. He shows up and he delivers," said Chuck Lorre, an executive producer of "Two and a Half Men," the most popular comedy on U.S. television.
"Idol" judge Jackson calls Cowell rumors distracting
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson said on Friday he did not know whether fellow panelist Simon Cowell would be leaving the show but fevered speculation on his future was a distraction from the TV singing contest's mission of finding the next superstar. Jackson also told reporters ahead of Tuesday's 9th season opener of the top-rated U.S. show that he missed departed judge Paula Abdul, and that the dynamics on the panel had changed.
Official says no charge yet against Jackson doctor
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Los Angeles prosecutor's office on Friday said it has not yet decided whether to charge Michael Jackson's doctor with a crime in the pop singer's sudden death by cardiac arrest last June. "We have nothing pending. No decision has been made and nothing has been filed," said a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office. She declined further comment.

The "Twilight" vampire romance series took home four People's Choice trophies: favorite movie, favorite franchise, top on-screen team for its actors, and one of its stars, Taylor Lautner, landed the award for breakthrough movie actor.
HBO nabs rights to Pablo Escobar documentary
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - HBO has picked up the U.S. television rights to the feature documentary "Sins of My Father," the inside story of notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. The film will compete in the World Documentary section at the Sundance Film Festival later this month, and is slated to air on the pay cable network this year, possibly in the fall.
