The Gallatin Theatre League is sponsoring youth basketball this year for all area children in grades one through four. Registration forms were sent earlier to all area elementary schools, and over 100 participants have signed up to play basketball. The season will begin Jan. 9 and run through Feb. 27. Doug Nichols has organized the practices and games which will be held in the Covel D. Searcy Elementary School gym on Saturday mornings.
The all-volunteer coaches, referees and assistants will be helping out each Saturday morning, beginning at 8 a.m. The first and second grade coaches are as follows: Blue Team A - Corey Endicott; Orange Team B - Angel Michael; Red Team C - Tom Heckenbach; Green Team D - Mark Corwin; Light Blue Team E - Doug Baker; Yellow Team F - Jennifer Smith.
The Learn and Do Club will be running the concession stand. A portion of the proceeds from the GTL basketball program and all of the concession stand proceeds from the Learn and Do Club will go to financially assist Sonna Walker with her current battle with breast cancer and during the next several months of chemotherapy.
No admission will be charged to attend the games. Everyone is invited to come out and support our enthusiastic young athletes, and you are encouraged to donate to a very worthy cause.
