Jyoti Basu passes away: Reports


Kolkata: Veteran communist leader Jyoti Basu passed away here today at AMRI hospital in Salt Lake city, media report said. He was 95. However, there is no official announcement has been made so far.Sources said that he has been physically dead and doctors are observing him for the last time to make any announcement in this regard. It is expected that 5.30 pm medical bulletin will clear the air from his death.He was admitted to hospital following pneumonia and his condition turned very critical today. He was put on ventilator after acute breathing problems. According to the family and hospital sources, the veteran communist leader breathed his last at 1.30 pm.Basu was admitted to hospital last Friday and his condition was improving till yesterday.Jyoti Basu served as the longest Chief Minister of India. He was the chief minister of West Bengal from 1977 to 2000. He was succeeded by Buddhadev Bhattacharya in the office.He was the member of CPI (M) Politburo from the time of party's founding in 1964 till 2008.
