Unemployment, not Woods, Florida's top story in 2009

MIAMI - The state's weak economy beat out the Tiger Woods scandal to be Florida's top news story in 2009.
Newspaper editors from throughout the state voted in The Associated Press poll.
Florida's unemployment rate hit 11.5 percent in November, the highest since 1975. More than a million people are out of work. The construction industry has lost the most jobs, 73,000.
The state also has the second-highest foreclosure rate. One out of every 165 homes was in some stage of foreclosure last month.
Only Nevada's rate was worse. Housing prices had dropped almost 7 percent in October over the same month last year.
Woods' reputation imploded after a November fender-bender outside his suburban Orlando home. That led to reports of rampant infidelity.
