The central government today recommended the withdrawal of former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore’s police medal, and decided to strip decorations off all officers convicted or dismissed for “moral turpitude” or “bringing the service into disrepute”.
The decisions were taken by the Central Police Awards Committee (CPAC), at a meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary G K Pillai. “The CPAC has decided to recommend to the President for the withdrawal of police medal given to... Rathore,” Pillai said. That the Government was considering such action was first reported by The Indian Express on December 25.
“The CPAC has also taken a generic decision to authorize the Ministry of Home Affairs to recommend the withdrawal of police medal to all persons who are convicted for moral turpitude and for an act that brings disrespect to police forces, or any officer who is dismissed from the service by Centre or the state for his act which brought disrepute to the police,” Pillai added.
